LAS VEGAS – On Friday, a 17-year-old girl was riding an electric scooter in Henderson when the driver of a U-Haul truck hit her.
The incident occurred near Pecos Road and Sunshadow Avenue at around 10:30 a.m. According to the police investigation, the U-Haul truck was heading eastbound on Sunshadow and turned onto southbound Pecos, failing to notice the pedestrian who was traveling northbound on Pecos in the southbound bike lanes.
The pedestrian slid into the truck after it turned in front of her. The driver of the truck stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
The pedestrian was transported to Sunrise Trauma in critical condition and later died.
The driver of the truck is suspected of being impaired, but this has not been confirmed yet.
The incident is being investigated as the fourth accident-related fatality for 2023.
