LAS VEGAS – Jonathan Lewis Jr., 17, was tragically killed as a result of a horrific incident that transpired close to Rancho High School in Las Vegas. The incident was a terrible accident. The gruesome assault, which was reportedly caught on film, has sparked concerns about the rising rate of violence among adolescents in the surrounding neighborhood.
Jonathan Lewis Sr., the grieving father, confirmed his son’s passing on Nov. 7, six days after the brutal assault on Nov. 1. Reports suggest that a mob of teens attacked Lewis Jr., but the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has not officially confirmed the video’s authenticity or the teen’s death.
Despite this, the video, circulating on social media, has intensified public outcry. Officer Luis Vidal of LVMPD stated, “The LVMPD is actively investigating this incident, and an update will be provided when available.”
Lewis Sr., residing in Austin, Texas, emphasized that he cannot bear to watch the video showing his son’s senseless killing. He expressed dismay over racial comments accompanying the video, condemning them as a disgrace to his son’s memory.
In a text message, Lewis Sr. urged accountability for the perpetrators and revealed that the teens involved might have been part of other incidents, indicating a pattern of troubling behavior.
The Clark County School District issued a statement expressing grief and highlighting collaboration with law enforcement. Lt. Bryan Zink urged parents to address the consequences of such behavior with their children.
