LAS VEGAS – Jesus Ayala and Jzamir Keys, appeared in court this Wednesday, facing charges related to a fatal hit-and-run incident involving a bicyclist. The shocking incident, which unfolded on August 14, allegedly saw the teenagers record the fatal collision.
At the time of the incident, both Ayala and Keys were 17 and 16, respectively. Now charged as adults, they have entered pleas of not guilty to multiple felonies, including murder and auto theft, among others.
The incident in question involved a series of hit-and-run accidents on the fateful August morning, with the tragic collision claiming the life of 64-year-old cyclist Andreas “Andy” Probst, a retired former police chief from Bell, California. The video, recorded from the front passenger seat of an allegedly stolen vehicle, shows the vehicle approaching Probst and striking him, resulting in his tragic death.
The recent indictment has expanded the charges against the teens, including murder, residential burglary, battery, attempted murder, multiple counts of automobile grand larceny, and possession of a stolen vehicle. Additionally, the younger teen faces a charge of possessing burglary tools.
Notably, under Nevada law, the most severe sentence the teens could face if convicted on the murder charge is 20 years to life in state prison, as the crimes occurred when they were not yet 18. A status check for both Ayala and Keys is scheduled for October 24th at 9:30 a.m.
