LAS VEGAS – In a recent undercover sting operation conducted by the Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB) and local law enforcement, a wanted and unlicensed contractor, Brett Benson, was apprehended.
Operating under various aliases such as Brett Jordan or Brett Zimmer, Benson was allegedly running the business “Security Screen Masters.” However, his activities went far beyond the boundaries of legality. Benson now faces a total of 24 felony charges and one misdemeanor, signifying the severity of his alleged misdeeds.
The NSCB’s Director of Investigations, David Behar, emphasized the complexity of the case, noting the collaboration between multiple law enforcement agencies. As the investigation unfolds, victims who had encountered Benson’s operations await justice.
Remarkably, this isn’t Benson’s first encounter with legal troubles of this nature. His contractor’s license had been revoked as far back as 2020. A detailed investigation by the NSCB had revealed that he had collected over $150,000 in down payments from clients before abandoning their projects. Ultimately, Henderson Police arrested him.
Given the prevalence of such cases, the NSCB shared essential advice on safeguarding oneself from unscrupulous contractors. Verifying the contractor’s license is paramount, along with obtaining multiple bids for projects and conducting thorough research. The NSCB remains a resource for those seeking guidance or assistance in navigating the construction industry safely.
