LAS VEGAS – Over 1,485 vehicles have been broken into or stolen in the Las Vegas valley this year, as reported by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
The numbers show a 40 percent rise from the same period last year.
Workers at Spring Valley’s Busy Buggy Auto Repair have been putting in long hours repairing vehicles that were stolen from their lot.
Marco Rodriguez, the business owner, claims that every day, people call him for assistance after their cars have been stolen or vandalized.
According to Rodriguez, car thieves “take the car for a couple of hours, do whatever they want with it, and then leave it.”
We met with a man identified only as “Daniel” for his own safety. Daniel’s two automobiles were stolen from his driveway.
Basically, I was taken aback by it all. Daniel remarked, “I had to go upstairs and break the news to my wife that her much-loved Escalade had been stolen.”
By the end, Daniel had reported that both vehicles had been found, but they were total losses.
It’s been a living hell. They went over every square inch of it and danced on the spot where the roof gave way,” Daniel claimed.
The purchase of an aftermarket alarm system or kill switch, as recommended by Rodriguez, is one protective action car owners can take.
