According to court records, the woman accused of killing her 7-year-old son in a mountainous location outside Las Vegas has reached a guilty plea agreement.
Samantha Moreno-Rodriguez, 36, reached an agreement on Thursday, September 1. The agreement’s terms were not immediately known.
Moreno-Rodriguez was charged with murder in the death of her 7-year-old son, Liam Husted, whose body was discovered in May of last year in the Mountain Springs region west of Las Vegas.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department first did not know the boy’s identification and issued an appeal for assistance, referring to Liam as “John ‘Little Zion’ Doe.”
Investigators received information that Moreno-Rodriguez and Liam had unexpectedly left San Jose, California, a few days before the body was discovered. A DNA test confirmed that the body was Liam’s.
Moreno-Rodriguez was apprehended in Denver and extradited to Las Vegas. According to prosecutors, she acknowledged to strangling Liam to death after becoming upset with him, and the Clark County Coroner’s office determined Liam died by strangulation, calling his death a homicide.
Moreno-pre-trial Rodriguez’s conference hearing was set for Tuesday morning in Clark County District Court. It’s unclear whether that appearance will take place.
