A Man From Winnemucca, Nevada, Has Been Killed After a Hunting Buddy Shot Him by Mistake in Remote Northern Nevada

NEVADA – A man from Winnemucca, Nevada, has been killed after a hunting buddy shot him by mistake in remote northern Nevada.

On November 1, deputies from the Elko County Sheriff’s Office arrived to the North Pequop Mountains on the report of a hunter who had been shot in the chest.

Accidentally firing the rifle and striking the man in the chest, investigators learned the victim’s friend was attempting to store the weapon in a plastic box attached to an off-road vehicle.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife has stated that incidents of this nature frequently occur when the shooter is getting into or out of a vehicle. In accordance with Nevada law, it is illegal to transport a rifle or shotgun while operating a motorized vehicle, including an all-terrain vehicle or a snowmobile.

Death by hunting has already claimed its second life in Nevada since 1997.
