An Elko man who was jailed numerous times for drug crimes while on probation was sentenced to prison for his part in stealing a television set from a downtown hotel.
Braulio V. Rodriguez, 29, of Elko, was charged with felony burglary in April after an Elko Police Department officer on patrol “noticed something strange” at the hotel around 4:30 a.m. A guy was spotted removing a window screen, while a lady opened the window and crawled inside.
The male fled in a car, but police detained the lady, Samantha A. Lowe, 27, of Battle Mountain. According to the officer’s statement, she informed police that her boyfriend had been sleeping there and that she was seeking to reclaim her handbag.
Another officer stopped the car and identified the driver as Rodriguez. A Samsung TV was installed inside the car. The hotel manager examined the room and discovered that the television was gone.
Rodriguez was detained on two charges of drug paraphernalia and probation violation. Over the previous two years, he had been jailed seven times on felony counts and received two suspended sentences from District Judge Mason Simons after pleading guilty to narcotics charges.
Rodriguez pled no guilty to commercial burglary and was sentenced this week by Simons to 12-30 months in prison, to be served concurrently with three prior terms and a new narcotics possession conviction.
Lowe was also arrested for the April burglary and for failing to appear in court on the charges in August.
