NEVADA – The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) has reported that a young boy sustained minor injuries during a target shooting outing with his family. According to the WCSO, the incident occurred on Monday night north of Gerlach.
During the outing, one of the boy’s siblings was using a .22 long rifle for target shooting. Unfortunately, a bullet ricocheted off a rock, causing a fragment to break off and strike the other child in the back of the head.
Deputies have clarified that the children were under supervision at the time, and the incident is being deemed as an accident. As a result, no charges will be filed in connection with the incident, as confirmed by the WCSO.
The WCSO emphasizes the importance of adhering to safety guidelines and precautions when engaging in shooting activities, especially when children are involved. It serves as a reminder to exercise caution and ensure a secure shooting environment to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.
