RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – Cancellations continue to pile up at Reno-Tahoe International Airport as Southwest Airlines encounters widespread troubles.

As of Tuesday morning, more than 50 flights into and out of Reno International Airport had been canceled.

According to FlightAware, Southwest Airlines was responsible for the great majority of flights.

Southwest has canceled 2,500 flights scheduled on Tuesday across the country, and the company has warned that it will continue to cancel flights until its operations can restart.

Storms in the Chicago and Denver areas, as well as aggressive scheduling, have been blamed for the difficulties that have left tourists detained at airports and towns across the United States in the aftermath of Christmas.

Dozens of flights into and out of Reno were also canceled on Monday. According to FlightAware, more than 380 flights have been canceled at Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport in the previous 24 hours.

The US Transportation Department stated that it will investigate if the cancellations are controlled and whether Southwest is following customer service plans.

Officials advise anybody travelling to verify their flight status before leaving for the airport.
