NEVADA – Reno’s streets were covered in snow until just recently because of strong storms. Crews are now working day and night to fix all the holes in the roads around town.
“This is a bigger year because of how long the storms were and how wet the rain was,” said Tim Hendricks, who is in charge of maintenance and operations for the city of Reno.
Hendricks says that the damage is caused by freezing water.
“When water freezes and thaws, the ice breaks up the asphalt,” he said.
Hendricks says that it’s hard to find the potholes, so his team needs our help.
“There have been many more reports, which is great; we love it.”
Since January 1, the city has been asked to fix 166 potholes, which is already more than last year’s total of 142.
If you see a pothole, you can call Reno Direct at 775-334-4636 to tell them about it.
Hendricks said, “We have another storm coming this weekend, so we’re trying to fill as many as we can before this weekend’s storm.”
Even though crews have cleared our roads so you can drive on them, these fills are only here for a short time because it’s cold.
Hendrick’s team will return with a more permanent fix in the summer.
