NEVADA – Record high temperatures in the region are expected to cause creeks and streams to swell, with water levels potentially spilling over their banks this week. In response to this weather pattern, the National Weather Service in Reno has issued a flood watch for Lake Tahoe. The flood watch will begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday and last until 9 a.m. on Monday, May 1.
According to the National Weather Service, there will be significant stream flow rises, particularly for snow-covered terrain that is below about 8,000 feet. Snowmelt will likely increase daily throughout the weekend, resulting in the highest flows occurring during the evenings and overnight. As a result, water will be running high, fast, and could potentially overflow banks for some creeks and streams in the area.
Residents and visitors are advised to be cautious near waterways and to monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings. Stay up to date with the latest information and follow the advice of local authorities.
