NEVADA – Washoe County Emergency Management reminds citizens to prepare for wildfires, floods, and heat waves.
September is National Preparedness Month, so establish escape plans, go-bags, and pet care arrangements.
“It’s not a matter of ‘if,’ it’s ‘when,'” said Washoe County’s emergency manager.
A kit, a plan, and being informed are preparedness tips.
What does a fire drill look like for your family?
Echeverria remarked. If you have a meeting spot in your neighborhood, you know who to call long distance or close by, and you know where to get information.
You may buy emergency kits at Lowe’s and Home Depot or make your own.
Echeverria added, “Duct tape is everyone’s best friend, light sticks, whistle.”
Include water, nonperishable food, first aid, sanitary supplies, and tools.
Evacuee Echeverria says it’s also necessary to consider comfort and daily needs.
“Having crucial documents and stuff ready to go in an easily accessible spot that I can just throw in the car was helpful,” she added.
Shelly’s Hardware in Sparks has camping equipment.
The store has emergency blankets, can openers, flashlights, propane cans, and water containers, according to manager Kathy Tester.
If you can’t buy a kit, pack some clothes in a bag and take a screenshot of your critical information.
Because mental health is vital, add books or games.
According to the state’s website, emergency kits should contain enough food, water, prescriptions, and other consumables to last 7-10 days.
