Gunman Barricaded in Lyon County Home After Standoff With Police

NEVADA – Some Fernley residents have been told to stay in their homes because of a barricade situation with an armed suspect.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office got multiple calls about a man shooting a gun in the street and yelling at people in a neighborhood south of Fernley High School just before 1 p.m.

Police said the suspect did not follow their orders and went back inside his house near Oliver Branch Court, where he is still locked in. Hostage negotiators are on the scene and are trying to reach the suspect.

Because of how dangerous the call was, the Southwest Meadows subdivision has been told to stay in place.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is working with local schools and bus drivers to make sure that students who ride the bus in that area stay put until the order is lifted.
