SPARKS, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – Sparks Police Department says, a homeless guy and top-tier sex offender was staying in west Sparks, fewer than 100 feet from the entrance of Bernice Mathews Elementary School and Paradise Park.
On Oct. 21, police arrested James Hopkins, 51, on charges that included being a sex offender who failed to register, impeding an officer, and breaking a parole term.
Sparks police said its Homeless Outreach Proactive Engagement team, which generally seeks to provide options for homeless persons, made contact with Hopkins. He was living in the buses that line Elementary Drive north of the El Rancho Drive drive-in cinema.
Police then discovered he was a Tier 3 sex offender who had not reported his location since 2019.
He was previously arrested for abduction, discharging a pistol in public, narcotics charges, and sexual assault of a juvenile under the age of 16.
Hopkins was detained without incident, according to police.
