NEVADA – The Reno Fire Department and the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District responded to a distress call on Tuesday evening when an inflatable boat capsized, causing nine people to be thrown into the Truckee River around Chalk Bluff. The call came in at around 6:30 p.m., and about 20 firefighters rushed to the scene. All nine people were found and extracted from the river at Crissie Caughlin Park, with one juvenile stuck in an eddy and requiring help. REMSA examined all nine individuals, and fortunately, none needed to be hospitalized.
Prior to the capsizing, a separate call came in for a missing kayaker along the Truckee River, but the search was fruitless, with only an empty kayak being found. Two RFD firefighters and three TMFPD firefighters searched for the missing person, with assistance from the Sparks Fire Department, but the individual has yet to be found.
