RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – Most individuals have more garbage than normal around the holidays, or is it recycling?
Waste Management in Reno reports a 25% increase in volume as vehicles bring in more undesirable things.
“When people are shopping, when they are celebrating with their families they’re sending us their recyclables,” said Mickey Eckman, the Material Recovery Facility Manager.
Eckman has been a Waste Management employee for 15 years, and every Christmas season, she sees items that should not be in a recycling container.
“We start seeing Christmas lights, Christmas ribbons from packaging,” Eckman said.
“We see Christmas trees, baby diapers, batteries.”
Eckman warns against too flamboyant gift wrap and ribbons. They are usually sparkly or glittery.
“It needs to be like the plain kind of unexciting gift wrap,” she explained.
