NEVADA – Some Secret Witness board members believe the anonymous tip line should hire an out-of-state crime call center to help sort through anonymous information.
According to Ken Lightfoot, Chairman of Secret Witness, the tip line is somewhat dysfunctional due to a shortage of volunteers combined with a decline in personnel with their partners.
They are unable to offer us free services as they have in the past due to a lack of employees, therefore we may be migrating to requiring people but not money.
Secret Witness has been running on volunteer effort for 40 years, and they have been able to stay functioning virtually free thanks to donations. However, hiring an outside entity would drastically alter how the tip line operates.
The proposed contract would be expensive, but it would result in more efficient and complete processes.
The Secret Witnesses board will decide whether to proceed with this idea at the beginning of 2023. If the response is affirmative, they stated that the community’s assistance would be required to pay the debts.
