NEVADA – The Lyon County Board of County Commissioners convened on Monday, January 9, 2023, to declare a state of emergency due to the severe winter weather occurrences affecting the town. An Emergency Declaration allows governments to immediately obtain the resources needed to respond to protect inhabitants’ health and safety.
Lyon County took the choice to declare a state of emergency owing to the accumulation of snow and water from the prior storm. Furthermore, the National Weather Service predicts more storms through Tuesday, with a possible break Wednesday and Thursday before another system arrives.
Water levels in Lyon County are expected to rise in streams, creeks, culverts, and drainage areas. While river flooding is not currently forecast, people should be prepared at all times. Prepare for power disruptions by stockpiling at least three days’ worth of food, water, and supplies.
Lyon County has launched an emergency operations center to respond to countywide requirements. Citizens are asked to call (775) 461-3757 for flooding and weather-related issues and assistance.
Please dial 911 in an emergency.
