NEVADA – The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) has apprehended 23-year-old Alexander Difoggio-Wasson on various counts, including sexual assault and attempted murder. The arrest followed an incident on May 27, 2023, near the Sky Tavern Ski Resort on Mt. Rose Highway.
Investigation by WCSO unveiled that Difoggio-Wasson was driving eastbound on Mt. Rose Highway with a teenage passenger when he allegedly veered off the roadway with the apparent intention of driving toward a cliff. The vehicle came to a halt after colliding with a boulder and a tree. Difoggio-Wasson fled the scene but was later apprehended by deputies after an altercation south of the location. The victim, who sustained injuries, was promptly transported to a hospital for treatment.
On May 27, Difoggio-Wasson was booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility on charges that included battery with a deadly weapon, fleeing the scene of an incident, and obstructing and resisting arrest. Four days later, on May 31, he was released on bail.
Further investigation by WCSO detectives revealed that prior to the collision, Difoggio-Wasson had sexually assaulted the teenage passenger. Evidence suggested that he deliberately attempted to drive off the cliff with the victim in an apparent joint suicide endeavor.
Additionally, detectives found links between Difoggio-Wasson and an incident from December 2022 in Incline Village involving another victim. They also discovered that he had sexually assaulted another female victim, with the circumstances aligning with the assault on May 27, 2023. During this particular incident, the victim was allegedly held captive in Difoggio-Wasson’s Incline Village residence for several hours before being released.
On June 13, Difoggio-Wasson was arrested once again and charged with two counts of sexual assault, two counts of false imprisonment, and one count of attempted murder. Moreover, he is considered a person of interest in a date rape drug incident from February 2023.
This is an ongoing investigation, and authorities urge anyone with information related to the suspect or these alleged crimes to contact Secret Witness at 775-322-4900 or WCSO’s Detective Hoops-Adams at 775-225-0511, or via email at choops@washoecounty.gov.
