NEVADA – Gregory Shawn Walter Thomas Sargent, 41, from Washoe County, has been sentenced to a maximum of 26 years in prison with parole eligibility after 7 years and 4 months for drug trafficking and firearms offenses.
Sargent pleaded guilty in June to Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Schedule I Drug Trafficking. Regional Narcotics Unit investigators detained Sargent in December after investigating narcotics transactions and gun possession.
RNU detectives found more than a pound of methamphetamine and powdered fentanyl, as well as various weapons, scales, and packaging tools.
At sentencing, Deputy District Attorney Michael Vieta-Kabell stated that Sargent’s possession of narcotics and deadly weapons was dangerous. He noted that methamphetamine contributed to 69 overdose deaths and fentanyl to 41 in just six months.
Mr. Vieta-Kabell requested the court to sentence Sargent to 26 years because of his community risk and criminal past.
