RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – The Open Enrollment Period (OEP), which this year ran from November 1, 2022, through January 15, 2023, saw almost 100,000 Nevadans sign up for qualifying, inexpensive health insurance plans, according to Nevada Health Link.
About 18,000 of those who signed up were new customers, meaning they had never before purchased a plan through the marketplace.
“We are thrilled that thousands of Nevadans have taken advantage of their health and financial protection by enrolling in health plans this Open Enrollment,” said Ryan High, Executive Director of Nevada Health Link. “Our top priority is ensuring Nevadans are protected and have access to quality coverage and health care.”
Consumers can also upgrade or modify an existing plan during open enrollment. 31 719 Nevadans actively used NevadaHealthLink.com to upgrade or switch to a new plan this year, and the website provided 163 distinct plan alternatives—more possibilities than any other OEP.
For a variety of reasons, including increased coverage, reduced monthly rates, searching for a different insurance provider, or enrolling in a plan with a smaller deductible, consumers may decide to transfer policies.
After the federal government passed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) in August 2022, advanced premium tax credits were still available to assist reduce the price of monthly premiums. Due to this, 40% of participants had a net premium of $100 or less, and 86% of Nevadans who searched for insurance through NevadaHealthLink.com received some sort of financial aid.
Just 5% less than last year’s record-breaking Open Enrollment, this year’s Open Enrollment was Nevada Health Link’s second-highest to date.
“Our success this year, building on the record-setting enrollment from the year prior, shows the value of Nevada creating a State Based Exchange,” said Dr. Florence Jameson, M.D., Chair of the Board for the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange, which oversees Nevada Health Link. “We have made it a priority to reach out and inform consumers about the affordable options available through Nevada Health Link and we’re seeing the incredibly positive results that will mean a healthier Nevada in the future.”
Additionally, many Nevadans utilized the free enrollment support provided on NevadaHealthLink.com. With this service, customers may contact with licensed brokers or navigators who can assist them in choosing plans and finding discounts. In addition to being available over the phone and in person at numerous sites around the state, enrollment help is provided in a number of other languages. The customer satisfaction rating for call centers this year is 93%.
For those who want a lower monthly premium but do not qualify for Medicare (age 65+) or Medicaid benefits, as well as for independent contractors and gig workers without employer-sponsored insurance, Nevada Health Link is the best option. It is also the best option for anyone looking for comprehensive, high-quality, and reasonably priced plans.
Nevadans who have gone through a Qualifying Life Event (QLE), such as losing health insurance, changing jobs or income, getting married, having a child, or moving, are eligible for the Special Enrollment Period (SEP), which is now taking place.
