Nevada – Taking a significant step towards addressing food insecurity among students, the Nevada Assembly passed Assembly Bill 319 on Thursday, enacting a universal school breakfast and lunch program. The bill, first introduced by Assembly Majority Floor Leader Sandra Jauregui, aims to ensure that no child goes hungry in the classroom and to improve educational outcomes for Nevada students.
Assembly Bill 319 mandates the provision of universal breakfast and lunches for all Nevada students. The program acknowledges the critical link between proper nutrition and quality education. Assembly Majority Floor Leader Sandra Jauregui emphasized the non-partisan nature of the issue, stating, “We owe it to our students to provide them with a quality education, and research shows that means ensuring they do not go hungry in the classroom. Assembly Bill 319 will reduce the number of children in our schools who are battling food insecurity and help Nevadan families that are struggling. By investing in our students and providing them with accessible and nutritious meals, we will improve academic and behavioral outcomes for Nevada’s students.”
This legislation comes as a significant step towards alleviating food insecurity among students in Nevada. The program aims to create an environment where all students have access to nutritious meals, eliminating the stigma associated with free or reduced-price meal programs. By implementing a universal breakfast and lunch program, Nevada is prioritizing the well-being and academic success of its students.
The passage of Assembly Bill 319 highlights the commitment of Nevada’s lawmakers to address the issue of food insecurity among students. It represents a collective effort to ensure that no child faces hunger while pursuing their education.

The free chow program isn't without its negatives. For example, many disruptive and criminal behaving individuals that have little chance of actually graduating, no longer quit school as before. But instead, stick around menacing classroom continuity for years longer to exploit the free chow giveaways.
