Nevada Democrats Attack GOP U.S. Senate Candidate Sam Brown for Anti-Abortion Stance

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – Nevada Democrats are taking aim at GOP U.S. Senate candidate Sam Brown for his anti-abortion stance and past comments.

During a press conference on Thursday, Nevada Democrats accused Brown of having an anti-abortion agenda. They pointed to his endorsement of a 2013 Texas law that places a 20-week abortion ban.

“Sam Brown is absolutely a threat because his election doesn’t happen in a silo,” said Democratic Women of Washoe County Chair Erica Roth. “We have anti-choice activists working across the state to ensure that not just Sam Brown is elected, but that anti-choice Republicans are elected across the state.”

Democrats also criticized Brown for saying that abortion should only be allowed in cases where there is a “risk of life to the mother.”

“He even supported a radical Texas abortion ban that was described as one of the strictest anti-abortion measures in the country,” said Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Nevada Campaigns Denise Lopez.

Brown’s campaign has defended his stance on abortion, saying that he is “pro-life, with exceptions for rape, incest, and/or the life of mother.”

“Sam has consistently believed this issue should be decided at the state level, and the people of Nevada have made their position clear,” the campaign said in a statement.

The abortion issue is likely to be a major focus of the 2024 Nevada U.S. Senate race. Incumbent Senator Jacky Rosen, a Democrat, is up for re-election.

Rosen has been a vocal advocate for abortion rights. She supports the Women’s Health Protection Act, which aims to safeguard abortion rights across the country and prevent further restrictions on access to reproductive healthcare.

The 2024 Nevada U.S. Senate race is expected to be one of the most closely watched races in the country. The outcome of the race could have a significant impact on the national debate over abortion rights.
