NEVADA – The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced that it will not be able to issue driver’s licenses or learner’s permits on Saturday, February 25, due to a planned network outage. The outage is related to a planned Verizon network maintenance that will affect the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration’s Problem Driver Pointer System (PDPS), which is used by the DMV to screen driver’s license applicants.
The outage will impact all Nevada DMV offices, regardless of location, and will prevent the DMV from accessing the PDPS, which is required by law before issuing a license. The planned outage is unrelated to the power issues that have affected the East Sahara office earlier this week.
The DMV is advising anyone looking to get a new license or learner’s permit to make an appointment during weekdays or to visit their local office on a subsequent Saturday for walk-in service. The DMV website provides information on how to make an appointment.
It is unclear how long the outage will last, but the DMV has assured the public that it will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available. In the meantime, the DMV is urging customers to plan ahead and avoid visiting DMV offices on Saturday, February 25.
