NEVADA – Nevada Medicaid is increasing incentives for doulas who offer guidance during pregnancy as an alternative to traditional care.

Over half of all births in the state are reimbursed by Nevada Medicaid. The new incentive increases the reimbursement rates from $350 per pregnancy up to $450, with the goal of connecting Medicaid members to essential services like prenatal/antepartum and oral health care.

However, doulas say that the incentive is still not enough to cover the cost of their work, which involves spending an average of an hour and a half to three hours with each client.

Nevada Medicaid aims to improve maternal child health and reduce racial disparities by improving access to healthcare options for future parents in the state.
