Nevada State Police Mourn the Loss of Two Troopers Killed in the Line of Duty

NEVADA – The Nevada State Police community is in deep mourning following the tragic loss of two troopers, Sergeant Michael Abbate and Trooper Alberto Felix, who were killed in the line of duty on Thursday. The troopers were doing their jobs, a profession where risking one’s life is an inherent part of the service.

“Tomorrow is never promised, tomorrow is not a guarantee, and we try to go out there and do the best job that we can,” said Nevada Police Union President Dan Gordon on Friday.

Gordon, a trooper based in Douglas County, expressed the profound grief felt by the entire Nevada State Police family.

“It’s tough. It’s a very eye-opening experience, you know,” Gordon said. “My heart is broken. I feel for the wives and the children of the two heroes.”

The loss of Abbate and Felix marks the fourth NSP trooper fatality in the line of duty over the past three years.

Gordon attributed the tragedy to a combination of recklessness and a lack of awareness among some drivers on Nevada highways.

“Just one small mistake can cost a life, if you’re not paying attention,” Gordon emphasized.

The senseless deaths of Abbate and Felix have shaken the core of the Nevada State Police, leaving them questioning the certainty of returning home after each shift.

“Unfortunately, we’re here now having to discuss and talk about two troopers that lost their lives and [gave] the ultimate sacrifice for public safety,” Gordon said with a heavy heart.

Gordon expressed his strong disapproval of the suspected drunk driving involvement in the troopers’ deaths but declined to comment further due to the ongoing investigation.
