Nevada State Police Seek Information on Fatal Hit and Run Crash in Washoe County

NEVADA – The Nevada State Police-Highway Patrol (NHP) is actively seeking information regarding a tragic hit-and-run incident that occurred on April 28. The crash took place on I-580 northbound at the South Virginia/Patriot off-ramp in Washoe County, prompting a swift response from NHP troopers at approximately 4:45 p.m.

According to preliminary investigations, a silver 2005 Ford F350 was traveling northbound on I-580, nearing the S. Virginia/Patriot off-ramp. Simultaneously, a white 1999 Dodge Caravan was also heading northbound on I-580, leading the Ford F350. Tragically, the Ford F350 collided with the rear of the Dodge Caravan, causing the Caravan to rotate into the gore area at the top of the off-ramp before striking the attenuator.

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the Ford F350 exited at the S. Virginia/Patriot ramp and fled the scene, leaving the injured parties behind. Subsequently, investigators were able to recover the Ford, which will serve as a crucial piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation.

Regrettably, the driver of the Dodge Caravan has been identified as 67-year-old Jorge Lara-Cabrera from Crystal Bay. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, but sadly succumbed to his injuries on May 6.

Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Northern Command West M.I.R.T (Multidisciplinary Investigation & Reconstruction Team) has taken charge of the investigation and is working diligently to uncover any leads that may shed light on this tragic incident. Their pursuit of justice hinges on the cooperation of witnesses and individuals who may have crucial information about the crash.
