NV Energy Says Power May Not Be Restored Until Tuesday After Storm

NEVADA -According to NV Energy officials, the firm is working around the clock to restore electricity to more than 31,000 customers who are still without power after a strong winter storm caused more than 1,000 outages on December 31, 2022 in the Reno, Tahoe, Carson City, and Minden/Gardnerville areas. Additional NV Energy personnel from southern and eastern Nevada and contracted crews are being sent in to assist with restoration efforts.

While the firm aims to have a substantial percentage of customers restored by the end of Sunday, officials believe full restoration may not be completed until Tuesday, January 3.

“Since yesterday, NV Energy technicians have been able to restore more than half of the customers who experienced an outage due to massive volumes of wet, heavy snow that weighed down our power lines and harmed vegetation along our power lines. The focus remains restoring power to the remaining customers as safely and soon as possible, and our staff will not stop working until everyone’s electricity is restored. “Restoration efforts could take several days due to the significant amount of outages throughout the area and weather conditions,” Jesse Murray, NV Energy vice president of delivery, said in an email. “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and urge impacted customers to remain safe and prepare for an extended outage.”
