WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – The Washoe County Assessors office has awarded a property devolution to residents in the Swan Lake area who have been suffering from a strong odor.
Assessor Mike Clark authorized a 10% downward adjustment on homes in Lemmon Valley and near the lake following an evaluation in response to community concerns.
“As I transition into a new role on the County Commission, I will not stray from my belief that we are to serve you, the citizens of Washoe County. I will bring this same attitude to the Commission; it is time for a change,” said outgoing Assessor Mike Clark.
The residents were chosen based on study conducted by the assessor’s office, who concluded that each of the properties was and is significantly impacted by smells outside their control, lowering the value of their homes. Residents claim the scents have become a nuisance as flood levels recede on the dry lakebed. Citizens also say that the actual reason and potential contributing causes have yet to be adequately addressed to them.
The incoming assessor, Chris Sarman, welcomed this proactive approach, which may be the greatest single issue downward adjustment the assessor’s office has ever done. Clark stated that this reduction is not permanent and that it may be lifted once residents have full use of their properties.
