NEVADA – As a result of an incident that occurred in April of 2022, a guy from Reno was found guilty of animal cruelty.
The case began in April 2022, when Reno police arrested 29-year-old Dennis Mark Glenn after receiving a report of a fight taking place near the “BELIEVE” sign on 1st Street in downtown Reno. After arriving on the scene, investigators from the RPD established that the incident started because witnesses had seen Glenn beating his 2-year-old Pitbull, Abando.
According to the security film, Glenn can be seen beating the dog many times before lifting him up and throwing him across the street onto the concrete pavement, where he then allegedly punches the dog multiple times again. A lack of violence on the part of the dog was evident, as it backed away and tried to escape.
As Glenn was attacking the dog, others stepped in and started a fight. The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office filed criminal charges against Glenn for animal abuse, leading to his arrest.
As such, Glenn was charged with one felony count of torture, maiming, mutilating, or killing a dog, cat, or other companion or pleasure animal. In the end, the jury in Washoe County decided to convict Glenn of misdemeanor animal cruelty, which carries a penalty of up to 6 months in jail.
On March 30, Glenn will be given his punishment.
At trial, Assistant District Attorney Robert Erquiaga contended that Glenn’s behavior did not warrant disciplinary action since it was malicious. The Reno Justice Court ruled that Glenn was incompetent in a separate civil case and ordered him to give up his ownership stake in Abando. Washoe County Regional Animal Services found a new home for Abando after the hearing, and he’s doing great, so far as anyone can tell.
