NEVADA – In a recent court ruling, 49-year-old Michael Colony of Reno has been convicted of domestic battery with substantial bodily harm against an elderly victim. The charges stem from a disturbing incident that occurred in January 2022.
The Reno Police Department received reports of a domestic disturbance at an apartment on Mira Loma Drive, prompting their immediate response. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 60-year-old woman who was visibly injured, bleeding from the head, and bearing strangulation marks, among other injuries. Further evidence of the altercation included a broken cell phone and a damaged lamp.
According to the victim’s account provided to the police, an argument between her and Colony escalated. As she attempted to leave, Colony forcefully threw her cell phone against the wall, impeding her exit. He then proceeded to grab her by the neck, forcefully slamming her to the ground and choking her. In the midst of the struggle, Colony struck her head with the lamp, causing a significant wound that required medical attention, including the application of staples.
Michael Colony is scheduled to be sentenced on August 10. The domestic battery conviction carries a possible prison term of six years, while an additional six years may be added due to the crime being committed against an older person.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing domestic violence and ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable individuals within our communities.
