NEVADA – The City of Reno Parks Department will hold its highly anticipated annual Rose Pruning Demonstration on April 1, 2023. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Reno Municipal Rose Garden, located just east of the California Building in Idlewild Park.
During the demonstration, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the unique pruning needs of various rose types and discover the optimal time of year to prune them in the Reno area. Participants are advised to bring gloves and sharp bypass pruners to the event.
Admission to the demonstration is free, but attendees are encouraged to assist in maintaining the Reno Municipal Rose Garden’s 1500+ rose bushes after the event. The garden boasts a vast array of rose cultivars, including climbing, miniature, hybrid tea, and floribunda roses.
“We look forward to educating our community on the art of maintaining roses, and we sincerely appreciate the public’s help to keep the Reno Municipal Rose Garden beautiful,” said Ryan Sharrer, the City’s Horticulturist.
Expert rosarians from the American Rose Society and the City of Reno Horticulturist will also be present at the event, answering questions on all aspects of rose culture and pruning.
