NEVADA – Renown Regional Medical Center, a leading healthcare institution in Nevada, has announced the opening of its new neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). The addition of these state-of-the-art facilities on the fifth and ninth floors of the Tahoe Tower marks a significant milestone in the hospital’s commitment to providing comprehensive care for children in the region.
The decision to expand the hospital’s capacity for neonatal and pediatric care was driven by the growing need for specialized medical services for infants and children. Renown recognized the importance of creating dedicated spaces that cater to the unique needs of young patients and their families, ensuring a comforting and supportive environment during their healthcare journey.
The NICU has seen a notable increase in capacity, expanding from 39 to 49 bassinets. This expansion allows for the admission of more critically ill newborns who require specialized care. The new design includes a bassinet pod system, which provides additional space for families to be with their infants, fostering a sense of closeness and bonding.
Similarly, the PICU capacity has been increased from 11 to 16 private patient and family rooms. These private rooms offer a more personal and quiet space for children and their families, promoting a healing environment. The inclusion of interactive moments, such as reading nooks and shadow puppet corners, adds an element of engagement and playfulness to help alleviate stress and anxiety.
The overall design of both units prioritizes the well-being and comfort of patients, with bright and engaging colors and child-friendly artwork that appeals to young imaginations. Renown has carefully curated an environment that is not only child-friendly but also supports the emotional well-being of families going through challenging times.
The staff spaces have also received significant upgrades to enhance the working environment for healthcare professionals. These improvements include a staff lounge, better acoustics, and sit-stand desks, allowing medical teams to provide exceptional care while maintaining their own well-being.
In addition to the physical enhancements, the new NICU and PICU feature upgraded technologies to support advanced medical interventions. Renown continues to invest in cutting-edge equipment and resources, ensuring that the highest level of care is provided to every young patient who enters their doors.
The opening of these expanded units at Renown Regional Medical Center demonstrates the hospital’s commitment to meeting the healthcare needs of the community, particularly its youngest and most vulnerable members. The increased capacity and state-of-the-art facilities will enable more children to receive specialized care close to home, reducing the need for families to travel long distances for critical medical services.
With the new NICU and PICU, Renown Regional Medical Center continues to be at the forefront of pediatric healthcare in Nevada, providing comprehensive and compassionate care to infants and children in need. This expansion is a significant milestone in the hospital’s ongoing dedication to improving the health and well-being of the community it serves.
