SPARKS, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – In a 2021 road rage incident, a Sparks man was convicted guilty of second-degree murder.
Isaiah Alexander Norwood, 20, was convicted on one count of second-degree murder with a dangerous weapon and one count of firing a handgun from a vehicle in a public place. The verdicts came after a 6-day trial in Washoe County District Court.
The case against Norwood began on Feb. 5, 2021, in the Sparks area, when the defendant was involved in a tragic road rage incident with the victim, 19-year-old Thomas Schlessinger of Sparks.
Norwood fired four shots from his car at the victim, who was riding a motorbike. The rounds missed the victim, and Norwood pursued him for one and a half miles through a residential area in East Sparks and into a strip mall. Norwood then slammed his vehicle into the victim and his motorbike. The man died as a result of his injuries acquired in the incident.
Norwood originally left the scene but was apprehended two days later in Douglas County. The crime was investigated by the Sparks Police Department, which identified Norwood as the driver and collaborated with Washoe County Deputy District Attorney Jeff Hoppe on the investigation and subsequent trial.
Norwood stands up to life in prison for murder, as well as extra sentences for the other offenses.
