NEVADA – The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) has introduced an “excessive use charge” on January 1 for any customer who uses more water than SNWA considers their fair share. If customers go beyond the limit, they will see an additional nine-dollar charge per thousand gallons of extra water on their bill. The SNWA says that 10% of residential customers consume 30% of the water delivered to all local single-family homes, and the surcharge is meant to encourage them to reduce their water usage.

During the summer, households can consume up to 28,000 gallons of water per month. Outside the home, residents may water six days a week before 11 a.m. and after 7 p.m. In September, the limit decreases to 26,000 gallons, and in the winter, it falls to 14,000 gallons.

The SNWA advises residents to adopt sustainable practices such as not leaving faucets or showers running for longer than necessary to reduce wastage.
