Sparks Man Found Guilty of First-Degree Murder in Fatal Shooting

NEVADA – In a recent verdict, 21-year-old Brian Rodriguez-Sigala has been convicted of first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed weapon. Rodriguez-Sigala’s sentencing is scheduled for July 27.

The case stems from an incident on March 26, 2021, when Sparks police responded to an apartment on Sullivan Lane following a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of 67-year-old Javier Rodriguez-Ramirez, who had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

As the investigation unfolded, authorities learned that Rodriguez-Ramirez had hosted a gathering the previous night, which included Rodriguez-Sigala. According to the police, an altercation ensued between the two men after Rodriguez-Ramirez made unwelcome sexual advances toward Rodriguez-Sigala.

During the course of the evening, Rodriguez-Sigala fired two shots at Rodriguez-Ramirez, hitting him in the wrist and chest, fatally striking his heart. In subsequent police interviews, Rodriguez-Sigala claimed that he shot the victim due to considering the advances a sin and desiring a confession from him. He reiterated multiple times that he believed the victim deserved the consequences.

The conclusion of this trial brings closure to a tragic event, as the legal process moves forward to determine the appropriate sentencing for Rodriguez-Sigala.
