ELKO, Nev. (NV, Globe) – Elko County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Spring Creek man with a stolen horse trailer on Tuesday.
Chancy K. Yates, 28, was stopped at the intersection of 12th Street and Opal Drive when a deputy noticed the trailer he had reported into a criminal database earlier in the day. According to the deputy, Yates stated he went to a friend’s house and saw the back door had been busted in, so he went inside and stole two valuable items and carted them off to make sure they were secure.
When contacted, the owner stated that he had not granted Yates permission to enter the home or take any property. A further search revealed that “many more items” from the home had been discovered within the horse trailer.
Yates was arrested on suspicion of house burglary and possessing a stolen vehicle. His bail was set at $40,000.
Yates was arrested eight years ago as one of two persons suspected of burglarizing shops at the Plaza Forty retail mall on Idaho Street, as well as another company on Manzanita Lane and two locations in Spring Creek, according to Elko County Jail records.
He failed to appear in court and was named as one of the sheriff’s department’s “most wanted” suspects in July 2015. After returning to Elko on a bus from Oregon, he was caught a month later.
