Standoff in Stead Ends with Arrest of Stalking Suspect

RENO, Nev. – A tense standoff in Stead culminated in the arrest of a 31-year-old man suspected of stalking Thursday night. Reno Police tracked down Stephen Ligouri to a home on Crystal Shores Drive after a previous stalking case involving his ex-girlfriend.

Police initially attempted to apprehend Ligouri peacefully, making multiple calls at the residence. However, due to the seriousness of the prior offense and Ligouri’s refusal to cooperate, the Reno SWAT team was activated for assistance.

After five hours of negotiation, SWAT deployed tear gas and flash bangs to secure the residence. At 11:45 PM, Ligouri was apprehended without further incident and charged with aggravated stalking. Thankfully, no injuries were reported throughout the operation.

“The successful resolution of this situation is a testament to the bravery and professionalism of our officers,” stated Captain Dennis Ramirez of the Reno Police Department. “We are committed to protecting our community and will not hesitate to utilize all available resources to ensure the safety of our citizens.”

The specific details of the prior stalking case remain under investigation. Ligouri is currently being held at the Washoe County Detention Center and is expected to face a judge in the coming days.

This incident serves as a reminder to those experiencing stalking or harassment to report it immediately to the authorities. Resources like the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-SAFE) and the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) can offer additional support and guidance.

The Reno Police Department encourages anyone with information regarding this case or any other potential criminal activity to contact them at (775) 334-2188.
