State Route 208 to Close for Repairs Following Landslide

Nevada – The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has announced that State Route 208 will be closed to traffic on Monday, March 27. The closure is due to the final phase of major landslide repairs, where crews will place permanent roadway paving in the area.

The closure will begin at 7a.m. and will last until approximately 5p.m. The affected area will be between Hudson Aurora Road and State Route 339 through the Wilson Canyon. However, the road work schedule may change depending on the weather.

In January, a landslide fell across about 400 feet of State Route 208, causing a major disruption for drivers. The landslide material, which totaled nearly 15,000 cubic yards, was removed by crews who worked tirelessly to clear the area.

Over the past few weeks, the NDOT has installed nearly 250 feet of rockfall reduction netting on the roadside slope to minimize future rockfalls. Although the road has been open to 24-7 traffic since March 17, motorists should expect additional brief lane closures and traffic restrictions in the coming weeks as final roadway striping and roadside improvements are completed.

Approximately 1,800 drivers travel through the area each day. Therefore, the NDOT urges motorists to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during this period. Furthermore, they advise drivers to drive attentively and slowly in inclement weather conditions. For more information on winter driving safety tips, visit dot.nv.gov/winter. Additionally, motorists can check the NVRoads.com website for current highway conditions and controls before driving.
