The State of Nevada Receives $31 Million in Federal Funding for Public Safety and Victim Services

NEVADA – On Wednesday, Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen announced that the United States Department of Justice has granted Nevada $31 million for public safety and victim services.

All around the state, law enforcement agencies, local governments, public safety programs, tribal governments, and nonprofits will reap the rewards of these funds.

“To keep Nevada families safe, we need to make sure our local law enforcement has the funding and support they need to crack down on crime, hold perpetrators accountable, and support victims,” Cortez Masto said in a statement.

“This federal funding will help us invest in the resources we need to keep our communities safe and support those who have been harmed by crime,” Rosen said.

This funding comes from several different grant programs that aim to reduce violence in schools and communities. These include the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Hiring Program, the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Formula Grant Program, and the STOP School Violence Act (STOP) Grant Program.

More police officers will be hired with the grant money, de-escalation, and victim assistance training and services.

The Nevada Division of Public Safety will distribute the funding in the following weeks.

This is good news for Nevada because it means more money to invest in public safety initiatives and services for crime victims. More police officers will be hired with the grant money, de-escalation, and victim assistance training and services. Because of this, Nevada will become a more secure state.
