RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – In order to battle hunger, the Regional Food Bank of Nevada (FBNN) teams up with Google and Feeding America. These partnerships will help FBNN better serve the Reno community and provide thousands of emergency food kits to those in need in Nevada.
A grant was granted to strengthen their internal infrastructure and to aid in the development of a technology strategy that would allow us to better serve our neighbors.
According to Nicole Lamboley, President and CEO of the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, partnerships and investments like this help the organization become even more effective.
We must uphold food safety requirements. And, as technology has advanced, it has become increasingly difficult to obtain the necessary infrastructure to enable us to do so in a more effective and efficient manner.
She says that food inventory is also an issue.
As we all know, the supply chain is still struggling. And with that comes more priced commodities, we’re hearing, you know, how this Thanksgiving is going to be more expensive for so many families, you know, food costs have climbed, and some of the things that we regard as staple foods, dairy, eggs, you know, those sorts of things. Proteins are substantially more expensive, as are fresh fruits and vegetables. Food budgets for households.
Reno ranks first in the state when it comes to food banks in 2022. It’s a reality that many families face; they need extra aid to feed their family, whether it’s access to fresh fruits and vegetables, which they can acquire through our mobile harvest.
Seniors in Nevada are among the top ten populations with a major hunger problem, and they are among those who require the greatest assistance.
FBNN has initiatives in place to assist elders in gaining access to meals. Because many of them are on fixed incomes, they must choose between paying rent, acquiring prescription medicines, and going to the doctor when they are sick. The programs assist them in meeting those demands so that they do not have to choose between their health and their food.
The organizations are collaborating to fight food insecurity ahead of the holidays. The project aims to serve around 50 million meals to communities across the country.
The food bank is pushing the community to assist, and “Giving Tuesday,” which will be conducted the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, is a fantastic chance.
All donations are gratefully accepted, and one dollar equals three meals delivered.
