UNR College of Engineering Offering Engineering Labs For Grades 6 to 12 Students

NEVADA – Students in grades 6 to 12 can take free two-hour scientific labs at the University of Nevada, Reno College of Engineering on a monthly basis.

The Engineering Programs Inspiring the Community (EPIC) Lab will open for registration on January 23.

The engineering lab will be held at the William Pennington Engineering Building on the UNR campus on February 11, March 11, and April 15.

EPIC Lab and other College of Engineering outreach activities, according to the college, enable kids focus on math and science while also learning about the variety of engineering jobs.

“We know from research that academic interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) begins to diminish in middle school,” said Samantha Bickert, K-12 outreach coordinator for the College of Engineering. “Many middle and high school students see STEM as dull, and they don’t know how to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom.”

According to the college, science education is crucial to the United States’ objective of being the world’s technological leader.

To register for the EPIC Lab, please contact Sam Bickert at sbickert@unr.edu.
