NEVADA – The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) arrested a man in his 30s who locked himself in his Fernley home after shooting a gun several times in the street.
The order to stay put has been taken away.
Around 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday, LCSO issued a “shelter in place” order for the Southwest Meadows subdivision, which is near Royal Oaks Drive and south of Fernley High School. They did this after getting multiple reports of a man shooting a gun in the street and yelling at people.
When the deputies got there, they tried to get in touch with the man, but he went home and wouldn’t talk to them.
The LCSO says that it took them a total of about five hours to catch the man. SWAT teams fired several rounds of CS gas into the house to get the man out.
Sheriff Pope did say that so far, the investigation shows that the man was having problems with his mental health.
The suspect is being checked out by doctors right now, and then he or she will be taken to jail.
Police told us that they talked to all of the schools in the area and that students who take the bus to this subdivision after school will be kept at the school until the “shelter in place” order is lifted. Then, they will be taken by bus to where they usually get off.
