NEVADA – The city of Sparks has appointed Walt White as its next fire chief. White is the current head of the Amador Fire Protection District and was previously the chief of the Sacramento Fire Department.
“I am excited to serve the City of Sparks’ more than 100,000 residents and visitors,” White stated. “I’m thrilled to be joining this dependable team and contributing to the rich history and tradition of the Sparks Fire Department.”
According to the city, White was the initial top candidate.
“I believe that the time has come for me to accept the position of City of Sparks Fire Chief,” White said. “My family and I are thrilled to join the Sparks community.”
On Monday, White’s contract will be presented to the city council for final approval.
The hiring would be the city’s second attempt in the previous four months to fill the position. Mark Lawson was recruited in November but quit a week later after the city learned he was facing criminal charges for possession of steroids with intent to sell.
