North Lake Tahoe sources have told The Globe that the son of Doug Clifford, the founding drummer of Creedence Clearwater Revival, has been arrested as a person of interest in a fatal shooting in Reno, NV, and is a suspect in a missing person’s case of a Kings Beach, CA woman believed to be in a relationship with Brent Clifford. Doug Clifford resides in Reno and Brent Clifford resides in the North Lake Tahoe area.
Brent Clifford was arrested in Portola, CA, by the Reno police, Placer County Sheriff’s Office, and Plumas County Sheriff’s Office on an active warrant in California, authorities confirmed yesterday afternoon.
According to reports, Brent Clifford is a person of interest in a fatal shooting on Keystone Avenue in Reno, NV, after a man was found dead at a residence in the 1300 block of Keystone Avenue with a gunshot wound to the head. The two men are believed to have been friends before the fatal shooting. Clifford was said to be found driving the deceased man’s vehicle when he was arrested.
As reported by the Reno Gazette Journal, “Brent Clifford is also a person of interest in a missing persons case. Police said Clifford was the last person to be seen with Patricia Portella-Wright, 48, who disappeared from the Kings Beach area in Lake Tahoe and was reported missing on Friday. Portella-Wright is described as being 5-foot-9, with blond hair, brown eyes and weighing 125 pounds. She was last seen in Reno on Aug. 9.”
RPD asked anyone with information to call the non-emergency line at 775-334-2677 or call or text anonymously with tips to 775-322-4900 or at secretwitness.com. Witnesses can also contact the Placer County Sheriff’s Office at 530-889-7830.
In breaking news this morning, police have closed Mt. Rose Highway, one of the main highways from Reno to North Lake Tahoe. Both the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and Placer County Sheriff’s office are on the scene.
The closure is reportedly due to a crime scene and recovery effort between Douglas Fir Drive and Sunridge Drive. People are asked to avoid the area and plan an alternate route if they are traveling between southern Reno and north Tahoe.
The Globe will continue to follow this developing story and attempt to reach Doug Clifford for confirmation.
Update: The body of Patricia Portella-Wright was found and recovered in a ravine off of Mt. Rose Highway.
