LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – For nearly a year, a local guy was sentenced in a case involving fraud within a church.
Oluremi Akinleye, 42, was sentenced to 45 months in prison by a federal judge in the United States. Gloria M. Navarro is the District Judge.
Following his release, he will be subject to three years of monitoring.
In June 2022, Akinleye pled guilty to wire fraud conspiracy, possessing 15 or more counterfeit and unauthorized access devices, and aggravated identity theft.
Court documents state that between November 2017 and July 2018, Akinleye and other accomplices exploited the names and identifying information of specific account holders to take more than $400,000 from the Lutheran Church Extension Fund and the Pension Fund of the Christian Church.
The FBI investigated the case with the cooperation of U.S. Jim Fang, the case’s prosecutor.
