African American Museum in Historic Westside Is Being Developed in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – The city council of Las Vegas is going forward with plans to build an African American museum and cultural center on the city’s Historic Westside.

Council members decided on Wednesday to authorize a contract with Gallagher & Associates, the organization behind The Mob Museum in Las Vegas and other projects throughout the country.

The contract calls for the construction of a master plan for the museum, with the particular location to be selected. That master plan will lay forth a vision for the museum and look into potential locations.

The museum’s mission is to convey the complete narrative of African American life in Las Vegas, especially the Historic Westside. It would also have a cultural arts center where Black art and artists of all kinds may be shown.

“The residents of this community and the entire state want to have their stories told and this project will be a testament to their legacy,” Councilman Cedric Crear said in a statement.

According to city authorities, the museum will be created through a collaborative effort including community leaders and stakeholders.

Gallagher & Associates will be collaborating with Ford Momentum! Barber & Associates on fundraising and community involvement A final proposal will be revealed next year.
