City of Henderson Urges Vigilance Against Fentanyl Ahead of Homecoming Dances

LAS VEGAS – As students gear up for homecoming dances, the City of Henderson is amplifying its “Risk it All with Fentanyl” awareness campaign to caution parents and students about the perilous nature of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid significantly more potent than morphine.

Recent data from the Southern Nevada Health District and the Nevada Electronic Death Registry System reveals a shocking 620 percent surge in fentanyl-related overdose deaths among Clark County residents from 2011 to 2022. These fatalities often result from unknowingly ingesting fentanyl, which is sometimes mixed into counterfeit pills or other substances.

The City of Henderson initiated the campaign in May, targeting individuals aged 13 to 18 across various platforms to emphasize the life-threatening consequences of fentanyl. Mayor Michelle Romero stressed the importance of remaining vigilant, as fentanyl can’t be seen or tasted, and even a single mistake can prove fatal.
