LAS VEGAS- On Tuesday, a public hearing will be held to unveil proposed improvements to the bicycle/pedestrian crossing at the 215 Beltway and Charleston Boulevard.

The meeting, scheduled for 4-6 p.m. at West Career and Technical Academy, 11945 W. Charleston Blvd., has been announced by Clark County.

According to an engineering services contract granted this spring, the county is thinking of building a pedestrian bridge on the west side of the crossroads, with a probable completion date of late 2025.

People using the Western Beltway Trail have been frustrated by the crossing. It is one of the few places on the trail where bikes, runners, and walkers must share the road with significant traffic. Several other trail crossings include pedestrian bridges or walkways beneath roadways that allow pedestrians to avoid cars.

According to data issued in August by the Nevada Department of Public Safety, nine cyclists and 46 pedestrians have perished in Clark County so far in 2022, an increase over the same period in 2021. The figures compare data collected from January to August of both years.
